Things to do
Visit the historic Port Clements Museum and see how settlers arrived here and built the town together
Hike or bike along the Sunset Trail, a hard-packed gravel 6 km (one-way) trail from the museum to the Bird Watching Tower overlooking the Yakoun River Estuary. You can shorten the walk by starting at the Sunset Trailhead parking (2 km one-way) or park at the Sunset Park Campground and walk from there (150m one-way)
Venture further and check out the Xaahl Kayd K’iiwaay Golden Spruce Trail. Keep in mind that access to the trail is via an active logging road, so drive carefully and always yield to loaded logging trucks
Fish from the shores of the Yaagun G̲ándlee Yakoun River and off the Rainbow Wharf - make sure you have a license and proper gear
Get some picnic supplies from Bayview Market and park at the Sunset Trailhead parking area. The birdwatching around G̲aw Káahlii Masset Inlet offers the chance to see Bald Eagles, ravens, Common mergansers, sandhill cranes, common loons, and much more
Enjoy the community events around Canada Day / July 1st every year. There’s a parade, fishing derby, sometimes a mud bog, and other fun activities - check out the Village of Port Clements social media feeds for exact event listings
Check out the new Axe and Anchor Pub
Brave the cold waters of G̲aw Káahlii Masset Inlet and take a dip! Port has a dedicated group of local cold water swimmers that access the water just off the Sunset trailhead parking lot. There is a beautiful wooden gazebo that marks the spot
Walk down the Rainbow Wharf; it’s the best spot for viewing sunsets, starlight (when the rain eases up), and sometimes even northern lights
Paddle Board or kayaking in G̲aw Káahlii - remember to have your PFD and safety equipment. There are more sheltered paddling opportunities along the Yakoun River and along Gamadiis Kumdis Island
Plan your day trips around the rest of Haida Gwaii - Port Clements is the best central access point. Go north to Masset and G̲aw Tlagee Old Massett, west to Chaahluu Kaahlii Rennell Sound, east to Tlell, or south the plan adventures near Daajing Giids and HlG̲aagilda Skidegate
